Understanding IVs, CP & Appraisal: PvE 100% vs PvP Ideal IV Spreads
Deep dive into hidden stats (Attack, Defense, Stamina) and why low Attack (0/15/15) is mathematically superior in Great and Ultra PvP leagues.

What are IV Stats (Individual Values)
Every Pokémon possesses 3 hidden IV values (0–15): Attack, Defense, and Stamina (HP), added on top of species base stats. A 15/15/15 Pokémon is a 4-Star 100% IV (Hundo).
For PvE (Raids, Gyms, Team GO Rocket), 100% IV (15/15/15) is ALWAYS optimal because there is no CP cap in raids.
Why is 0/15/15 Optimal for Great & Ultra PvP Leagues?
In the CP formula, Attack is weighted twice as heavily as Defense and HP. A low Attack stat (0–2) keeps CP lower per level, allowing the Pokémon to power up to a significantly higher Level—granting massive extra bulk and total Stat Product under the 1,500 CP (Great League) or 2,500 CP (Ultra League) caps!
Exception: Master League (no CP cap) strictly requires 100% IV (15/15/15).
